So here I am finally trying my hand at this blog thing. I figure that, with all my road trips, I might as well share something. Maybe it’ll entice one or two of you to get out on the open road 😉
As I am typing this, I am sitting propped up in bed in a motel in South Carolina after a 1,300 kilometre drive. My daughter and I left at 3.30 am (old time), or 4.30 am (new time) always fun when you travel on time change day. The border crossing at that time was particularly pleasant and we almost picked up another passenger, namely the immigrations officer who felt the trip sounded so much fun that he wanted to come along! The next couple of hours were spent driving through varying degrees of blowing snow before we hit blue skies and sunshine over Southern Pennsylvania.
People often ask, how do I do it? How do I manage to drive so much? And how does my daughter handle it so well? You should know that we usually spend at least 12 hours driving. Here are a couple of hints. I always travel with a plug-in cooler and a snack bin. These are invaluable. It’s easy to make a quick bite to eat when stopping at a rest stop or ensure there’s always something handy to snack on when you can’t stop. The next is, I never keep a schedule when driving longer distances. I mean, I usually know when I want to leave and I almost always know whereabouts I want to end up that day but, what happens in between can change on a whim. Don’t be afraid of that unplanned stop, it could end up being one of your favourite memories 🙂
On a quick side note, anything I write about in this blog stems from personal experiences and any shared opinions or recommendations are my own. I am not sponsored nor do I have any monetary gain by recommending something we truly enjoyed. Now that that is out of the way … let’s go on a trip!
Safe Travels,
Kathrin
